Scientists warn of toxic ‘forever chemicals’ in reusable period products

A recently published study in Environmental Science and Technology Letters found that many reusable menstrual products are packed with toxic “forever chemicals.” These toxic compounds, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), are prevalent in numerous household items, including waterproof apparel, nonstick pans, and various personal care products. While recent research has found high concentrations of “forever chemicals” in traditional menstrual products, these new findings are especially alarming given consumers’ large shift to reusable alternatives.
