A recent pilot study from The University of Texas at San Antonio Health Science Center reveals elevated levels of environmental toxicants in the primary teeth of children with autism. Researchers found that baby teeth from children with autism contained higher concentrations of 57 out of 60 commonly detected chemicals, including pesticides, plasticizers, and other known endocrine disruptors, compared to children without autism. While the study highlights a distinct difference in early-life chemical exposure, researchers emphasize that the findings do not establish that these toxicants cause autism.
